Rudy's Songs And Instrumental Arrangements

The following audio recordings were done in the years 1990/1991 with my Kurzweil 1000 stage piano and put together in albums "Marlena","Calling Home", and "Bali Moon". All of these are originally composed and arranged by me. Album "Vocals" contains songs done with my sister Jutta and her partner Gerd, and also songs from our Gilroy Ukulele group Dukes of Ukes. These are all covers of known tunes. Album "Piano Compositions" contains piano pieces I composed between 1968 and 2022. Album "Classical" contains multi-instrument arrangements of well-known pieces from classical composers like Bach, Schubert, and Schumann, played on the Kurzweil SP3X keyboard, mostly using music software Band In A Box.

Album "Vocals" contains the following songs arranged and sung by Jutta, Gerd, and me: Greenfields (The Four Tops), Today (John Denver), Sound of Silence (Simon and Garfunkel), Yellow Brick Road (Elton John), Melancholy Man (Moody Blues), O Caritas (Cat Stevens), The Whiskey Wouldn't Let Me Pray (Dukes), I'll Fly Away (Dukes), Fly Me To The Moon (Frank Sinatra), Westcoast Life, Something Stupid (Frank+Nancy Sinatra), Dream a Little Dream (Mamas and Papas).

All songs in the albums can be played continuously or one by one by using the buttons for the playlists (Pause, Resume, Skip, and Stop). After a playlist is selected, the first song will start playing, and at the end it automatically goes to the next song unless the Stop button is used. Note that some songs take up to 5 seconds before they begin playing. It is recommended to use high-quality headphones or external speakers for the enjoyment of this music.

If you prefer, you can select the following links instead of using the play lists. These links each play a song from the album "Marlena" only, and display a music player window with control buttons (play, pause, volume). Use the left arrow tab on top of the page to go back to the browser window.

Videos With My Daughter Tanya

Tanya sings and Rudy plays "Ich weiss nicht was soll es bedeuten", an old
German folk song about the Lorelei, the young beauty sitting on a rock by
the Rhine river, combing her golden hair and distracting the fishermen going
by on their boats. Modern text by the poet Heinrich Heine.  Also translated
into English by Mark Twain during his trip to Germany and recorded in his
book "A Tramp Abroad". This recording was made in 1991 when Tanya
was 10 years old. See further below in this post for Tanya playing a Menuet
by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Ich weiss nicht was soll es bedeuten,I cannot devine what it meaneth,
dass ich so traurig bin.this haunting nameless pain.
Ein Maerchen aus uralten Zeiten,A tale of the bygone ages
das kommt mir nicht aus dem Sinn.keeps brooding through my brain.
Die Luft is kuehl und es dunkelt,The faint air cools in the gloaming,
und ruhig fliesst der Rhein;and peaceful flows the Rhine.
der Gipfel des Berges funkelt,The thirsty summets are drinking
im Abendsonnenschein.the sunset's flooding wine.
Die schoenste Jungfrau sitzetThe loveliest maiden is sitting
dort oben wunderbar;high-throned in yon blue air.
ihr goldnes Geschmeide blitzet,Her golden jewels are shining,
sie kaemmt ihr goldenes Haar.she combs her golden hair.
Sie kaemmt es mit goldenem Kamme,She combs with a comb that is golden,
und singt ein Lied dabei;and sings a weird refrain
das hat eine wundersame, that steeps in a deadly enchantment
gewaltige Melodei.the list'ner's ravished brain.
Dem Schiffer im kleinen SchiffeThe doomed in his drifting shallop
ergreift es mit wildem Weh.is tranced with the sad sweet tone.
Er schaut nicht die Felsenriffe,He sees not the yawning breakers,
er schaut nur hinauf in die Hoeh.he sees but the maid alone.
Ich glaube die Wellen verschlingenThe pitiless billows engulf him !
am Ende Schiffer und Kahn.So perish sailor and bark.
Und das hat mit ihrem SingenAnd this, with her baleful singing,
die Lorelei getan !the Loreley has done.

Tanya plays the first piece from Johann Sebastian Bach's "Notenbuch for Anna

Travel to Costa Rica

LAX   Monday Feb 17  9:30pm. Waiting for overnight flight to San Jose /Costa Rica.  Good start ! While enjoying some drinks at one of  the airport bars, we met a twosome from Holland and Idaho who were also going to the land of the Ticos. They were all exited, and so are we, although our itinerary appears to be less organized ..

First big adventure to report: On the way to the Arenal hot springs Tabacon a bunch of cars were stopping to take pictures of  a bunch of raccoons on the road who were begging for food. Some people fed them which they should not. I got out of the car to get close and take a picture. A raccoon came close and stood up to beg for food. When I didn’t give him any , it got angry and bit me in the hand. I got first aid at the hot springs, a big bandage, but no further damage. The fun at the wonderful hot pools and tropical gardens at Tabacon continued, and everyone stared at my hand feeling sorry. We had a beer at the bar, sitting in the water.  See pictures on top of this post about this  raccoon incident.

Just returned from a tour to Canio Negro reserve, where a boat took us on a jungle river cruise. Saw lots of caymans, iguanas, and a parade of colorful birds, and three species of monkeys. The last two days we spent at the Monteverde Cloud Forest where we spotted the famous Quetzal bird, and found the male and female again during a night walk, sleeping on a tree branch.

CURIOSITY PHOTOS

Full moon over Monterey/California
On January 16, 2014, we were strolling through Monterey downtown and saw a full moon shining right on top of a Chinese restaurant named “Full Moon”.  Perhaps we should go there and get a free meal showing them this picture ?
